How Stage and Lighting Rentals Work Together to Deliver Event Success
Whenever someone reaches out with an interest in one of our stage rentals, the first thing we do is connect them with our in-house lighting designer. Lighting is vital for setting the stage for your event, as it highlights the key participants and promotes the right ambiance. This blog introduces the importance of proper lighting and how we work with our clients in Atlanta and throughout the country to set up their events for success through our stage and lighting rentals.

The Main Role of Lighting in Stage Design
Our lighting designers oversee the design and feel of the overall room for your event. They have three primary objectives:
- Light the Talent: This is the most important part of any design and the main objective. If the audience doesn’t have a clear view of the talent on stage, then what you do with the rest of the room becomes pointless.
- Set the Right Mood: Lighting should reflect the experience you want to create. For example, if you’re going to play a video, then the room should be dim. If your event has a dance floor, you’d want lights to adjust with the music.
- Engage the Audience: The final step is creating that pizzazz that makes the show memorable for days, months, and years. Lighting helps create lasting memories when seeing acts in person. Think of bands that have lights that mimic the colors of an album cover during a song to play into the audience’s nostalgia.
What We Need to Know to Get Started
How do designers match lighting to your event? By asking the right questions.
- What type of show is it?
- How big is the show?
- What is the budget?
Once we know that, everything else falls into place. It’s not just about finding the right fixtures and lighting colors; it even comes down to dynamic vs. static lighting. A music festival requires the former to hype up the audience, while the latter is great for a trade show booth to get customers to focus on you and your products.
A Comprehensive Approach to Great Lighting
Lighting is so important that our lighting designer oversees the overall set and production designs. Having one person managing the entire vision makes it easier to help our sales team pitch ideas to our clients. It also ensures whatever we propose is possible within the building’s timeframe, budget, and constraints. We’ll be able to gauge what’s possible and determine if additional gear is needed for a project.
Biggest Challenges in Our Lighting Designs
Clients often don’t know what they want, which makes sense since they’re not lighting or set design experts! But it makes it much more challenging to know where to start. Though it may allow for more creativity, we don’t have the go-ahead to do whatever we want. We still have budgets and timelines, and any direction goes a long way in helping us get an initial vision. It also allows us not to waste resources or design time on something they won’t want.
Making Our Clients Vision a Reality: Cortland Primes 2022
Though the lack of initial information is challenging, the event can still be a success with the right feedback. A project that comes to mind is the Cortland Primes 2022 event we did. The client’s only direction was to “Make It Look Cool.” Easy enough, right? We met with our content creator and account manager and developed three design ideas.
Our lighting designer created complete packets for each idea, including drawings and renders. The client reviewed them and gave us feedback on what he liked and didn’t like from each. One of the biggest resulting notes was to make it more inclusive.
We used that feedback to create a final design for the show, which has speakers, video screens, and lights that build on each other. It ended up being one of our favorite set designs!
