Find Out How We Got Here and How We Made It Possible

This year, Technical Elements is celebrating 25 years in the industry. The growth has been amazing, from the early days of storing equipment in a garage and hauling gear in a small trailer to handling over 700 events annually. But it’s not just the gear and the gigs that have made this possible—it’s the people.

Our growing team, from freelancers to staff members, has all played a huge part in Technical Elements’ success. This milestone celebrates everyone who has been a part of the journey, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

How the Technical Elements Story Began

Our story began in 1994 when Winfrey started as a freelance audio and video engineer. He worked gigs, gained experience, and tried to build a name for himself. He did whatever it took to get the job done, and it didn’t take long before the work started rolling in.

By 1999, things had really picked up. Winfrey found himself with regular clients and steady gigs, some of which required him to provide equipment. So, instead of renting gear, he thought, “Why not buy some of my own?” It was a bold move, and some might have called it crazy at the time, but that decision was the turning point. He bought his first set of gear, stored it in his garage, and hauled it in a small trailer.

Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Between working part-time at a local church and running his freelance gigs, there were long days, late nights, and the occasional hiccup. But Winfrey saw the potential. He knew this industry had room to grow, and he wasn’t going to miss the opportunity.

Building the Team That Makes Technical Elements Shine

He realized he needed help to continue growing, so Winfrey took the next big step. As more clients and events came his way, he started sharing warehouse space with friends to store the growing collection of equipment. Over time, the team began growing with the inventory.

What started with a few gigs here and there quickly turned into a full schedule. With every new piece of equipment, there were new opportunities to take on bigger events. The decision to buy more gear was always strategic, and each investment paid off as the company gained a reputation for handling larger, more complex projects.

It wasn’t just the gear that made it all happen. People did. Winfrey began hiring a small team, then freelancers. Today, the team has grown to over 500 freelancers and 20 staff members. Everyone brought their own skills and talents to the table, and the collaborative spirit that formed became the backbone of Technical Elements’ success.
